In the first book of this series, Coins For Kids, the focus was on
modern circulating coins - most of which could be obtained with some
searching from everyday change received from stores and banks, etc.
The coins in this book, Old Coins For Kids, are both impossible to
find in everyday change and sometimes impossible to purchase due to
their scarcity. In fact, most people have never seen real examples
of some of the coins in this book.
There are volumes of
information written about most of these coins by true experts;
however, the goal here is simply to introduce young readers and
novice collectors to these historical coins. I have tried to present
the coins and organize this book in a way that is easy to understand
and provides basic information on their physical details, years of
issue, and some variations of their design.
